Who it suits: Walkers, photographers and anyone who wants cooler weather. Nights in Nuwara Eliya can drop to around 10°C, so bring a warm layer.
Day-by-day itinerary
Drive times are approximate. Every tour is private, so we can change the order, add rest days or extend it.
Day 1: Airport to Kandy
Pickup at the airport and drive to Kandy (about 3 hours). Evening visit to the Temple of the Tooth and a walk around Kandy Lake.
Day 2: Peradeniya Gardens to Nuwara Eliya
Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya in the morning, then drive up into tea country (about 3 hours) with a stop at a tea factory on the way.
Day 3: Nuwara Eliya
A slower day around Nuwara Eliya: Gregory Lake, Victoria Park, the colonial-era post office and a tea estate walk.
Day 4: Horton Plains and the train to Ella
Leave around 5am to reach Horton Plains before the mist rolls in. Walk the 9 km loop to World's End and Baker's Falls (about 3 hours), then take the train to Ella if seats are available — otherwise we drive.
Day 5: Ella
Morning hike up Little Adam's Peak (about 45 minutes each way), then the Nine Arch Bridge and Ravana Falls.
Day 6: Return to the airport
Drive back to the airport (about 5–6 hours via the Southern Expressway) or continue to the south coast or Yala.
