A 5-day private safari tour: elephants at Udawalawe and leopards, sloth bears and birdlife at Yala, with a stop at the Elephant Transit Home where orphaned calves are fed.
Who it suits: Wildlife and bird lovers, and families. Game drives are in open 4x4 jeeps and start at dawn.
Day-by-day itinerary
Drive times are approximate. Every tour is private, so we can change the order, add rest days or extend it.
Day 1: Airport to Udawalawe
Pickup at the airport and drive to Udawalawe (about 4 hours via the expressway). Afternoon jeep safari.
Day 2: Udawalawe
Morning safari, then the Elephant Transit Home at feeding time. Free afternoon by the pool or a second drive.
Day 3: Udawalawe to Yala
Drive to Tissamaharama near Yala (about 2 hours). Visit Kataragama, a temple town sacred to Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims, for the evening ceremony.
Day 4: Yala National Park
Full-day or two half-day jeep safaris in Yala Block 1, the area with the highest leopard density.
Day 5: Return to the airport
Optional early safari, then drive back to the airport (about 5 hours).
